I awoke to screams ringing through the pool house. I jumped out of bed and into my closet, tapping in the code to the safe in seconds. With the gun already loaded, I entered the hallway with it drawn. The screams were feminine, but they were coming from the spare bedroom where I told Nate to sleep. The door flung open when I reached for it, and Ivy stormed out.
“What the fuck,” I said, lowering the gun when my sister’s face registered. “What is going on,” I asked Ivy, looking past her to Nate. He looked disoriented and as drunk as he was last night.
“I could ask the same questions, Sage,” Ivy said. Her face looked flushed, and her brow furrowed with anger. “What the hell is he doing in my room,” she said, stepping closer to me. “What is he doing in my bed,” her last question came out more like a whine. She threw her head back and stomped her feet. I realized she was in the same clothes as the night before, and she looked exhausted.
I threw my hands out up, “You have a room of your own, Ivy. Besides, he drank too much to go home.”

Author’s Note | Hi, loves. And yikes, it’s been a long time. So, I wrote a long one! This is one of the new short stories I’m working on that’s Euphoria based.

I trailed be our parents as we made our way through the neighborhood. I linked arms with Ivy who was going on about the new position at a non-profit she just secured. It sounded like an amazing opportunity and a great fit for her. At least one of the Aldrich sisters was adjusting well to the move.
“Why do we have to meet these people,” I asked as we approached the house. It was a beautiful house, the biggest one on the street, but not in the neighborhood. The cars parked in the driveway, however, were two massive pick-up trucks. There was definitely money here.
“Yeah, Mom,” my sister added, “are they clients of yours?”
My mother shook her head, “It’s a local family, and from what I’ve heard, they practically run the town.” She turned to face my sister and me, “They have two boys. The youngest goes to your school, Sage. Apparently, he is a football phenom. The oldest is a colossal fuck up that Ivy is going to stay away from.”

“Excuse me,” I said, shouting and pushing my way through the crowd. I knew I was going to miss this flight, and I had no one to blame but myself. I had to have that extra drink last night. Plus, I refused to fly private despite my family’s wishes.
I ran as fast as I could, dodging people and luggage while carrying my own. I reached the gate in time to see the plane taxi away from the airport, sinking my heart. My mother would kill me if I did not make it home in time to cook for her parties to honor the New Year.
Luckily, I had a few days before I technically had to leave New York. I pulled out my phone, shooting off a quick text to smooth over missing the flight. With my eyes on my phone, and not where I walked, I ran smack into someone’s back and knocked the wind out of my lungs. Their reflexes were quick, catching me before I fell and righting me on my feet.
